I am just trying to get my windows xp from going into sleep mode.Is there some type of setting i may have changed by mistake that would cause it?As soon as it goes into sleep mode it forces my monitor into sleep mode also.I have to power it down and then reboot. It doesn't do it when i have it set to the desktop

Go to control panel
> choose Performance and Maintenance
> choose Power options
> a sub window will appear
> under Power schemes tab
> u will see options for turn off monitor, turn off hardisks and system standby.
> each one of those catergories have a drop down menu
> set it according to your needs
> click apply
> click ok
That should stop your Xp from going to sleep.

In my case, it is set as follows:
@ turn off monitor - 30mins
@ turn off hardisks - never
@ system standby - never

I've set 'never' for the last two options because, my xp rig is meant for downloads..which will consume time and left running un-attended...... for hours. However you can set it according to your requirements.

Cheers.

Does it actually shut down? Does it do this while you are using the computer? If it does, that is not sleep mode, but your computer is crashing. In sleep mode, you shuld be able to wake it up by hitting a key or pushing the power button quickly, since you can't, does not sound like the system is just going to sleep. Could be the motherboard, power supply, maybe RAM.
