So I'm building a pc, and want to use Ryzen 3rd gen CPU's, but I'm on a budget. I know B450 boards support Ryzen 3rd gen, but idk if they are out-of-the-box ready, or if they need a BIOS update, I don't have a Ryzen 2nd gen processor to update the motherboard so I need a board that's 3rd gen ready. I'm looking at motherboards and most of them I see the reviews that say they are 3rd gen ready, and others that say you need a BIOS update, and I don't know what to trust, I look at the board's manufacturers website but they all just say they support 3rd gen Ryzen. I'm mostly looking at the Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro Wifi because it's one of the cheapest boards that also has Wifi, and it's the same problem with this board. Is there a way I can make sure a motherboard needs a BIOS update or is 3rd gen ready?

Solution
i'm seeing some boards say it in the description "ryzen 3rd gen ready" or similar

seen plenty that say this. if it does not, then like folks are saying you'll have to contact the seller to be sure it is ready. but you should be able to find one that has it in the description. for instance..

https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-b450m-ds3h/p/N82E16813145083?Item=N82E16813145083

first thing in description: "Supports AMD 3rd Gen Ryzen/2nd Gen Ryzen/1st Gen Ryzen " kinda hard to miss if you're looking for it.
the board would have a sticker said 3000 series supported.
or if you buy online contact the seller
I'm making the decision before I buy, I cannot see if it has a sticker. If you can see the sticker in the picture then no motherboard I have looked at support 3rd gen out of the box. I just need a cheap ATX motherboard that has wifi and is Ryzen 3rd gen ready.

Only buy from a seller who'll work with you to assure it's Ryzen 3000 ready. Many will update BIOS for you.

Ok good, that’s pretty helpful. So it doesn’t have to specifically say it’s “Ryzen 3rd gen ready”, just that it supports 3rd gen, and that means I don’t need a bios update? On amazon the Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro Wifi it says it supports ryzen 1st and 2nd gen, but on the official Gigabyte website it says it also supports ryzen 3rd gen, so which site should I believe?

that means that with a BIOS update it will handle the 3rd gen. older stock of the board may not have it but newer stock may have the update already.

that's why folks say to look at the box. if they''ve bothered with the update, they usually indicate it with some kind of sticker to let you know it is done.

if they put it into the description like i pointed out, then it should already have the update as well. otherwise, it's a crap shoot.

again as others have said a few times, you can contact the seller to ask if it has the update or if they can do it before shipping if you can't tell from the item page.
