How do i know if a graphic card is compatible with my computer?

Hey everyone, this is my first time posting and i have a few questions to ask.

I want to get a new graphics card for my computer because the current one that i have (NVIDIA GeForce GT 440) is starting to wear out and i want to change the graphics card.

My computer model: Acer Predator G3610
RAM: 4.00GB
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500 CPU @ 3.30GHz 3.30 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 440

I just want to know which graphics card are suitable for my computer for gaming such as DOTA 2. I'm also kinda dumb about all these computer stuff so please go easy on me and be patient and explain everything to me so i can understand. Thanks for all your help in advance guys.

any gpu will work because you have a pcie 16x slot. it is an industry standard. how much are you willing to spend on a gpu?

hey thanks for the reply! About your question on how much am i willing to spend on a GPU, i just want to get one just for playing DOTA 2 since thats about the only game that i ever play. Also, i want to double confirm that any GPU will work as i've asked friends which are not really that good in computers but have their fair share of experience that there's a chance my motherboard can't take some GPU.

the only issue you will runinto is if your power supply does not support it. the website does not provide this information so you will have to. what psu do you have?

That is a 450 watt power supply. It will power basic graphics cards that don't require any independent power.

Any advanced graphics cards that require 1 or 2 power cables from the PSU will most likely not work. If you want to get one of these GPUs you will need a PSU more in the 700-750w range.

And as for compatibility, essentially every GPU on the market today is a PCIe GPU. The only ones that wont work have an "M" at the end of the model number as they are for laptops.

Basically it comes down to the power draw of the card. I'd get something in the 50-100 watt range. You could look at the GTX 750TI, however a GTX 950 might be coming at some point, I don't know.

hey thanks alot man! last question though. does PNY NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 (VCGGT6302XPB) 2 GB DDR3 SDRAM PCI Express 2.0 work fine with my computer?

That card should be fine. If all you really want to play is DOTA it should do you well.
