Using the https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator PSU calculator, it spits out that I need ~500W to run my machine. I recently upgraded to the following:

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X
GPU: RX 5600XT
Storage: (1) M.2 Samsung 970 Evo +
(2) Firecuda Hybrid HDD 7.2k RPM
RAM: 16GB DDR4-3200 (2x8GB sticks)

Originally I noticed that as I would come out of playing FIFA 20 or Origin, my PC would lock up where the mouse cursor would still move around and take inputs, but my voice input in discord was not going through and my desktop icons wouldn't actually open. It was completely bizarre in that I would open the programs that were on my taskbar, but I couldn't get the computer to actually respond to any other input, whether it be typing a web address or trying to restart it from the taskbar. Pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL would open up the task manager, but again, I couldn't close programs or do anything. I have MSI Dragon center and I usually have the hardware monitor up. I know my PC is freaking out when that screen freezes and shows the same CPU utlisation and fan speeds constantly. Eventually, I noticed this was happening much more frequently and not just when origin or fifa 20 was running.

So, now I'm wondering if what I'm experiencing could be the result of inadequate PSU or a failing PSU since I have a Seasonic with 550W output. Keep in mind, I previously had a Fx-8350 setup with the RX580 card, so I thought I'd be ok (at least that's what PCPARTPICKER told me). Luckily, the Microcenter is literally 2 minutes away and I bought a second set of CPU and motherboard to try and troubleshoot. Meanwhile, I didn't even factor the PSU so now I'm wondering.

What do you all think?

With your GPU PSU Recommendation 550 W but with your system specs I would give it abit more extra power 650W-750W PSU because it will provide your system with abit more extra power!. But I do think you should give an new PSU an try with that upgrade!. Many people would go with the Recommendation but many people will buy the extra power ones to be on the safe side depeneds how powerful your comp! Also when upgraded to new GPU did you do DDU to remove all the old drivers from your computer?

Symptoms of a failing computer power supply
  1. Random computer crashes.
  2. Random blue screen crashes.
  3. Extra noise coming from the PC case.
  4. Recurring failure of PC components.
  5. PC won’t start but your case fans spin

Just hope that you get some more answers good luck with your system :)

Thanks for the reply! I ended up reinstalling Windows (formatting, etc.) 6 times in total. I gave up and returned everything to MicroCenter and switched to Intel. So far so good, except that every morning my computer powers on, stops at the logon screen and restarts itself. So odd because it only happens in the morning and never again throughout the day - almost as if it knows I'm getting on for the first time of the day.

Faulty or even poor quality PSUs don't do this.

That's not how power works.
