Question How do i know if the cooler fits on my motherboard?

I have a case with clearance of 172 mm (Cooler master cmp 505) and a Asrock X570 Phantom Gaming 4 (https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X570 Phantom Gaming 4/index.asp ).

Dont know if this fits the Noctua NH-D15 fits, the heatsink near the cpu is very big on that board or it seems to be that way, how can i be sure?

Motherboards have a guaranteed certain amount of space around the socket that both Intel and amd have told motherboard ppl absolutely must be there. This guarantees that the stock aircoolers will fit.

After that, it's questionable. Some gpus have big backplates that stick up closer to the socket, doesn't interfere with the stock cooler, but might interfere with the biggest aircoolers.

Some ram is very tall, this doesn't impact stock coolers but can interfere with many aftermarket aircoolers. Even choice of what slots can.

Will that NH-D15 fit? Absolutely yes it will. It has a bracket for the AM4 motherboards. Will it fit in your pc? That's a different question. It's because of the above reasons that Noctua went back to the drawing board and re-designed the NH-D15, and came out with the NH-D15S, it has a slight offset away from the gpu, just for the backplate clearance, and a slight rear offset for ram compatability.

But as to the actual older NH-D15 fitting your pc, there's a good probability it will, clearances will be in the millimeter range, but no guarantees.
