How do I know my BIOS is updated?

I loaded the BIOS file into my floppy and booted it up and pressed alt-F2 like it said and it went to this screen for a second then went away. It then booted up and after I saw the PC health stuff the screen rotated between gray, rainbow colors. Then it loaded up after I restarted it again fine and I'm not sure if its safe to install my dual core CPU now. What would happen if I installed it without the proper BIOS and how do I know its been updated. Thanks
