How do I know what graphics card is compatible with my computer?

I have a Dell T3400 workstation with a quadcore processor. It currently has an NVidia quadro 1700 graphics card. Any idea what the best compatible graphics card upgrade to my computer would be?

If the server MB has a PCIe x16 slot, it can use any PCie x16 card on the market. PCIe versions are backward compatible.
