How do I make my laptop's internal speakers recognized as headphones

The title pretty much says it all, my laptop's speakers constantly output imbalanced sound, it could be louder on one side or the other...it is completely random and annoying. I am getting tired of the temporary volume slider fix and want a permanent fix to this. I unplugged and plugged back in both speakers already which did absolutely nothing. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Its a laptop. There's nothing much you can do. Try external speakers.

Put up with it or buy a new one. If its on warranty, take it in for repair.

Sounds like a problem with the sound card not the speakers. Have you tried removing the current sound driver an installing an updated driver.

I have before, but I can try again. If that does not work, what is the next step?

reinstall the os-> buy a new laptop.
