how good should my Ryzen 7 1800x and 3060 Ti run? It currently runs 120 on all low settings and it sometimes even freezes mid game. Is this normal?

i have not upgraded anything from my pc yet i am looking to upgrade it because of the performance but i dont know what to upgrade to stop the low fps and the freezes?

How much RAM and in what configuration?

What is your power supply?

Without knowing if there is an issue at play, the most obvious answer to your question would be whether your motherboard manufacturer has BIOS updates to allow Ryzen 5xxx.

The 3060 ti is stronger than a 1080 (which is my frame of reference) which I had in use alongside a R7 1700 and then a 2700X. On the latter setup I was seeing ~75 FPS at 1080P with high settings.

Do you live near a Micro Center? If so you can get a good price on a new CPU, board, and memory.
What do you use the regular HDD for? I would also dump that.

B550i with a 5600x3d or the new 5700x3d will be a good upgrade
BUT
ultimately a upgrade in GPU will give you the best up grade performance but with your low CPU it will bottle neck so a mobo cpu upgrade should be the first thing in my opinion !

Then look at GPU's later

That depends on the game you play.

You can just update the mobo bios and get a 5700X3D for the CPU upgrade.

The only thing that worries me with the B350 is Vrm's for the 5700x3d we dont know what b 350 ..
a decent b 450 or b550 would be fine but im always a little skeptical when people want to slap ryzen 5000 series CPU's in b350 boards !!
