I'm currently checking out Linux Mint 11 and I want to install it, but I don't have any disks laying around, and my only FLASH drive isn't large enough to be used as the bootable usb. I checked online and I had found that you can modify the Western Digital 500GB My Passport Essential Portable Hard Drive (model WDME5000TN) and was wondering if anyone can confirm this, and if they can, if they know if it's possible to do it to MY version of the passport. Any help would be appreciated

As far as I know, if it's a Smartdrive-enabled model you can't boot from it because Smartdrive interferes with the boot process.
I don't know if yours is Smartdrive-enabled, can't find any conclusive info.

Easiest option is just buy a larger pen drive or some CD-R discs.
