how do i optimize my pc

i just bought a new hp g6[amd a6 dual core,6gb ram,win8] and i want to use it for mostly light gaming and huge programming[am still a starter for now] how optimize my pc for these

upgrading laptops is not an easy task as most parts are not removable. you can upgrade the ram, and go a solid state drive. and thats pretty much what you can do to makeit better, but those two upgrades will rock your world.
