How do i password protect my USB files???? HELP!

Hi,

i've just brought a 2gb PNY USB mem stick and was wondering what are the best free password protection programs i can use? or is there a way i can get windows to do it?, i often use the drives on other coputers.
im really stumped and wondering if any one could help

Depends on what scenario you wil be using the stick in:

Scenario #1
**********

You are logged into a domain (i.e. at work or at school)

What I did was to reformat the stick as NTFS (click me !) and then set the file permission to a known username/password. This only works on XP professional.

Scenario #2
**********

You are logged into a standalone computer or part of a workgroup

Simplest thing to do is to put all your important files into a password protected zip file

Well ..... I had one of those "must have a gadget today" moments and ended up buying it in PC World 😳

Paid £80 for it but could probably have got it cheaper online but couldn't wait 😀

i total dispise PCworld, the biggest [CENSORED] in the computer market today. I mean the prices they ask for is just.....well unthinkable,
They ask £69.99 or sumthing for a spyware removal 8O

Portable Folder Password Expert can do the job and protect folders on your USB memory stick. Unfortunately, the program is not free. A license is $39.95 but you do not have to pay for upgrades.

Remember to save some space on the drive for the autorun and Truecrypt program to reside. They only take up 3MB but if you leave about 100MB then it'll give you an unencrypted area where you can keep data and access it without having to mount the secure volume.

While we are onto USB drives you can pick up an 8GB SanDisk Titanium drive with amazing read/write speeds for only £18.99 from here:

I got one, used Truecrypt to encrypt it then added Portableapps and do everything from it. It's class. An 8GB encrypted drive for under £20!

Honestly i didnt use TrueCrypt ever but heard some good reviews about it. The tool which i personally use is lock a folder. Its a small and easy to use utility works perfect every time. Here is the link to the official website:
