I am trying to figure out a good way to disable it permanently in win 10 for my Seagate Barracuda HDD. I know i can disable it temporarily in crystal disk info, but everytime i start up the PC, i have to manually go into the APM setting and click "enable" and its really annoying. So i would like it to be disabled automatically on boot.

I did a lot of searching and found some posts saying to edit the registry by going into Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStorAVC\Parameters\Devices and adding a dword there to disable it, the problem is i do not have any \Devices sub key there. I have iaStorAV, iaStorAVC and iaStorV, and none of them have a \Devices sub key there.

I have an AMD processor and a "Standard SATA AHCI controller" from microsoft according to the device manager. I also tried disabling HDD parking in Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\amdsbs\Settings\CAM and restarting, but it does not work, the HDD keeps parking itself every few minutes.

I also found some posts talking about a program called "QuietHDD" that can automatically disable the parking but the download link is dead and the website doesn't appear to have been updated in years. All other programs that I have tried only manually disable the parking for the current session and has to be manually run again every time you boot up the PC, which is not what i am looking for.

Does anyone have any idea how to permanently disable the parking, or at least automatically on boot?

Note : I am talking about HDD parking, NOT the HDD sleep setitngs in windows power management. They are two different things. Disabling HDD sleep in power options will not disable parking.

Because the HDD is parking itself every few minutes (which i can also see from the SMART values) and it makes an annoying clicking sound when it does. Yes, the clicking sound is from the parking, the HDD isnt failing, its brand new, SMART results are fine and it passed the seagate long test.

It is the same issue being described here : https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/beware-of-aggressive-apm-on-windows-10-build-1809.254023/

Edit : OK i tried this registry edit : Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci\Parameters - EnableAPM and i think its working.

For some reason the registry edits seem to work after i restart the PC, but stop working once i hibernate and start the PC again. Any idea why that might be?

I will give QuietHDD a try, thanks.

I tested QuietHDD and while it said APM was disabled, it was not and i could see the load/unload cycle counts increasing in SMART...so far the only thing that i have found which will work consistently is the APM setting in crystaldiskinfo, but it does not automatically disable it on boot...

In the windows power plan the top setting.....hard disk.
What do you have that set to?
