Question How do I put my hard drive in my laptop?

Hello. I have an HP Elitebook 2740p. It came without a hard drive, so I had to buy one and put it in myself. The thing is, I have no idea how to put the hard drive in. I am trying to find information on youtube, microsoft, and HP's website, but nothing. The drive is 1.8 inches. Can someone tell me how to put it in? Even if it's not the exact model, please, I need help

Seemed an unusually easy find for "trying to find info"....is this not the correct model?

Laptop "standard" is a 2.5" class drive. I am not sure what the 1.8" would be a measure of.

1.8" isn't a standard laptop drive size. You should return it and get a 2.5" one. Then it's just a matter of unscrewing the cover from the chassis and installing it in.

The laptop I am using requires a 1.8 inch... which is the whole reason I bought a 1.8 inch drive.

Having a look at the repair guide linked, yes, it looks like it uses 1.8". Either way, there's a repair guide that's linked that tells you what to do.

Yes, I've seen it. It doesn't do too much good when it shows how to take it out, not to put it in.

Putting one in is the reverse of taking it out.

Do you have the additional parts required? You need an interface adapter for the pins and the rubber surround for the drive. Without those you're not installing anything. You can see them in picture #3 of the last step in the above linked instructions.

Wow, it's been ages since I've seen a 1.8" drive. Can't be that many laptops of that era still getting regular use.

Putting one in is the reverse of taking it out.

I actually realized that a while ago; I just didn't bother to go back on here and say it. Yes, I ordered the additional adapter. Thank you.

(By the way, yes, I did end up getting windows installed onto my PC; windows 10.) So, I have a problem. I installed the drive (With the adapter) And I know I plugged it in the right way, but when I go to install windows, it doesn't show a drive. I go to diagnostics in the bios, and select the hard drive test, and gives me the error, "No disk installed". Does anyone know why? Is there something I'm missing?

One end or the other of the connecting cable is not fully seated.

There is no "Cable". It's connected from the hard drive to a short stubby adapter(AKA, NOT a cable) and then to the pins that should then be able to connect the hdd to the laptop.

Adapter, cable, something is not connected properly.
Or, the drive is faulty.
