Question How do i recognize a type of malware?

Hi everyone, i accidentally downloaded VLC from an unofficial site ( and i'm pretty sure it's a virus. I tried to scan with differents antiviruses and they don't detect anything exepect for malwarebytes that recognizes it as Generic.Malware.suspicious, My question is, how do i recognize if it's just a adware or something worse?

If possible, I will post the site link from where I downloaded it to see if it is scam

Malwarbytes is pretty accurate. I would get rid of the prgram.

The only thing i wouldnt delete immediately is a pup. If it finds malware, quarantine it.

initially I was on a secure site, but under the official "download" there was an advertisement with the vlc logo, I clicked it and the download started immediately, shortly after I realized that the site was different and I didn't open the program

Let malwarebyte remove the malware and reinstall the software being carefull.

You weren't on the official VLC site, then. They have no advertisements immediately under their DL button.
