How do I reduce CPU Usage while recording

PC Specs:
4690k
R9 390
16gb ram

Goal: Record and play games on the same PC with minimal frame loss.


I just bought an HD60 S in hopes that it would run better than OBS, which it does but I'm still noticing a good amount of frame drop.

Am I better off returning this and getting the HD60 Pro?


Or do I need to upgrade to an i7 before I can even dream of playing and recording on the same pc without large amounts of frame loss?

No matter what you do, recording and playing on the same PC at the same time is going to result in frame drops as both will be competing for CPU usage. There are a few things you can do to try and fix this.

• Record and play in a lower resolution (free).
• Upgrade to a more powerful processor (could be costly as you may need a new motherboard because the i5-4690k uses the LGA 1150 socket so you would need to find a compatible i7 such as the i7-4790k. 6th and 7th generation Intel CPUs use LGA 1151 sockets).
• Build a second computer and use that exclusively for recording and streaming content capture from the first computer. You would still need a capture card in this situation (expensive).
