Hey all,

So I have visited these forums forever and always find good information but I can't for the life of me find information about this so I figured I would join up and ask myself.

My question is, how do I take off the SATA power connectors. I am sleeving a PSU or about to start (have been doing some practice) and I can't find anything anywhere. I know there are multiple types. Some people say they can't be taken off. I have seen these, they're just a black brick, they have to be broken or cut off. Other's have 2 tabs on the side and you can take off a sort of cap on the end and pull the cables out. I mostly see these when used in a daisy chain. MINE however no one talks about and it's the flat black ones where there's no slips and it's a solid plastic piece but there's 5 slots where wires go into, and there's 5 little openings with 5 little silver spots on one side. Now they're tiny spots so I can't tell what they're for but I remember seeing something, somewhere I THINK a long time ago that suggested it was a release mechanism. However I tried with a tiny instrument to push down on them, lift up any spots, slide it, but unless I know what it's supposed to do, it's so small it's hard to just guess, and you can't see well enough to look at it and go oh you just push down here and slide to the left.

So if anyone knows what i'm talking about PLEASE PLEASE help me as I need to get this project done. I'm hoping you guys have seen the type of connector I am talking about, as I think they are more common now and this is a nice new PSU. If no one seems to know I can upload a picture for reference.

Thank you for reading, Sorry I rambled on a bit, thank you so much in advance for any help you can provide me!!!

Can't tell much from just the one pic. Have you tried pushing in or lifting the exposed metal contacts to see if that releases the wires? I've never seen that particular style.
You may want to avoid the hassle and just cut the wires close and attach them to a new SATA power connector. http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l3/g51/c391/s649/list/p1/Connectors-Sata_Connectors-Sata_Connectors-Page1.html
That would be OK for the end connector, but you'd have to smash/destroy the middle ones on the daisy chain to get the wires free.

Thank you for the quick response. I can't believe the 2 videos you posted actually, especially because one is the one I was talking about and I couldn't find it even knowing what I was looking for and you just happened to find it.

Unfortunately my connectors don't look like either of these, but it is very similar to the second video. The one where he has the little tabs and can see the contacts moving. However with my connector there is no black clip type thing over the silver contact area, and I can't see it wiggle when I move the cords, I just see a little piece of the metal contact through a small open square hole.

I think I will fiddle with it a little more. And I actually have a new PSU I haven't installed which might have completely different connectors, I haven't looked yet. Pretty sure I'm good enough where I can put new connectors on, seems pretty straight forward and I always love a good excuse to buy new computer parts :) If I could find some nice hot pink UV ones to match. That would be awesome. Thanks for the help clutchc!!
