I need chrome or firefox. Edge was forced upon me. How do I remove it to free space? In the add/remove programs system options the "uninstall" button is inactive. I imagine my first step is to make it no longer the default browser. How do I do that, for starters?

I use Geek Uninstaller

Just Double click on the program in Geek, that you want to uninstall. If it opens a web page, close the web page & then wait for Geek to present the 2nd step.

I would leave Edge installed. It’s always good to have a back-up browser. Say for example you remove Edge, what happens if Chrome stops working or you accidentally remove it? You’re stuck without a browser. You can set the default browser app in Settings to whichever you prefer.

Edge itself takes up around 420MB. If this amount of space is of dire need, I'd argue you need a bigger storage drive.

I'd leave it installed just in case you need another browser for whatever. But you can change your default so it doesn't open automatically.

Settings -> Apps -> Default apps -> Web browser

I have been using Geek for many, many years, probably about 10. Revo is another good one. I suspect that after uninstalling Edge, MS updates will reinstall Edge. I also would keep Edge.

If the OP xarzu has some other concerns, here is more on the subject.

Yes I would keep it and I don't think it is possible to completely remove unless you hack the Windows system, I use it to view PDF's and sometimes to check compatibility if things don't show up right in FF
