How do I remove write protection from a sony nwz s639f

my sons Sony player (NWZ-S639F) has the screen frozen at 'every moment has its music' and cant get past this, also when I try and delete, remove or copy any to it / from it, is say disk write protected.

what can I do to get it to work again?

Is there some way you can format / restore (like iPod)? Have you tried updating the firmware?

I have tried this and no joy. Even disconected the battery and no joy.

Been on the Sony website and they are no use.

To get it repaired, they want £72.00

It must be a software problem. there must be a way to reset it, or something.

Any advice is welcome, otherwise it will cost him the money and not me.

Going to Sony is the last option
