Click Start->Run, enter: regedit
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control
Does sub-key StorageDevicePolicies exist? If yes, right click to delete this sub-key

the solution suggested by arges86 is diametrically opposed to other solutions offered by several others that say to CREATE the StorageDevicePolicies sub-key, if it doesn't already exist, & either way, to make sure that the D-word setting is zero & not 1. The zero is supposed to unseat the write protect. Now I am really confused, having the same problem myself. Can you explain further, please?

So, the idea is that there may be conflicting or corrupt register keys
Obviously, you need to back up your registry before you do ANYTHING.

So deleting this key, can get rid of conflicts or corrupted keys.
