1. Order a new SATA DVD burner from somewhere.
2. Unplug your computer.
3. Open your case.
4. Unplug the cables on the drive.
5. Unscrew the drive.
6. Take the drive out.
7. Reverse the process with the new drive.
1. Is there a video which shows how to open the case on the FX6860?
2. Ca I upgrade to blue-ray/dvd/cd without a change to the motherboard or basic OS?
I will look for some videos that explain how to remove the cover. The user's manual will show how to do this. Look under "Replacing DVD drive" or "replacing hard disk" - this will show how to open the case.
To upgrade to a Blu Ray/DVD/CD you do not need to chanhe the motherboard and your present OS will do fine. However, you will need to install the driver for the Blu Ray. The Blu Ray will come with a CD which has the driver. Run this CD before you change the DVD to Blu Ray.
After doing this you may need to update the driver from the Blu Ray device manufacturer's website.
I did it myself. For the FX6860, you have to take off both side panels and the front. The DVD has 2 screws on the side. The front has three tabs on each side that have to be pressed inward to let the front pop off.
