How do i reset hp pavilion n5170 password

salvaged a hp pavilion n5170, but it asks for a password when i powered it up. how do i bypass?

If it's a BIOS password, just pull the battery.

If it's a windows user password, boot into safe mode. Use the default administrator login to reset/remove the password on the other user's account.
