Question How do I search within a folder without the search window?

Suddenly today (after many years) my folder settings changed and I have no idea why. Imagine I have 100 files in a folder and I open that folder in explorer. I press the letter "z" and the first file with "z" highlights. This is what I want and it also works in any Windows whether 32 or 64.

Now, all of a sudden with my Win 7, when I press "z", the search window on the top right opens and searches everywhere for anything with a "z" and changes the folder to a search folder.

Can someone please teach me how to get back to the other style. Thank you!

Go into Control Panel > Folder Options then click 'View' tab and in the Advanced settings scroll all the way down and there are two buttons:
  1. Automatically type into the Search Box
  2. Select the typed item in the view

The second one 'Select the typed item in the view' should be selected. If it's the first one select the second one and then click apply and OK. That should fix it.
