how do i see if my mobo is defective

Well, one of those annoying problems. You need a working CPU and Motherboard to test a PC. Either could be bad, to test a CPU you need a known good motherboard, and to test a CPU you need a known good motherboard. Memory is optional, but you do need that to see a POST, but a beeping will let you know the CPU/Motherboard are working, no beeping and one or the other are bad.

so basically i am screwed

I'm not sure how you ruled out graphics card if you can't get a display. If you are using integrated graphics, then you can't rule out the CPU over the motherboard either as the integrated graphics are typically on the CPU not the motherboard. A faulty GPU or CPU could produce a lack of display, as could a faulty video output circuit on the motherboard (but with a dedicated PCIe graphics card, you bypass that so you should get display provided you attach the monitor to the GPU not the motherboard).

You're not exactly screwed, but you need some more information to know what's wrong. Do you have a TV you could try in place of the monitor? If the TV doesn't show display either, then it's probably not the monitor which is faulty but you wouldn't know for sure until you get the monitor to display something - whether it's from a game console, a laptop, whatever.

i tried another monitor still nothing i will put gpu in friends pc and test it but im sure its the mobo now because the cpu is intel and was put on properly and i did try hooking to monitor from gpu does that mean anything?
