I'm not sure how you ruled out graphics card if you can't get a display. If you are using integrated graphics, then you can't rule out the CPU over the motherboard either as the integrated graphics are typically on the CPU not the motherboard. A faulty GPU or CPU could produce a lack of display, as could a faulty video output circuit on the motherboard (but with a dedicated PCIe graphics card, you bypass that so you should get display provided you attach the monitor to the GPU not the motherboard).
You're not exactly screwed, but you need some more information to know what's wrong. Do you have a TV you could try in place of the monitor? If the TV doesn't show display either, then it's probably not the monitor which is faulty but you wouldn't know for sure until you get the monitor to display something - whether it's from a game console, a laptop, whatever.
