How do I set up a server?

Hello do at the moment I have a company hosting my Minecraft server but what I would like is to do is host it my self I would like to know what I need to buy and can I set up custom ips like myserver.com but not that. I have no idea where to start and I am planning on this taking a year or two


Also can I make more than 1 server like you see on server hosting websites?

What is your ISP, Speed of your connection and quality of the lines? also how many players on average and your budget?
How much are you paying for hosting now?

also, as far as a custom domain, yes and pretty cheap too.
