I have an AOPEN 56K modem installed on my new PC. I have an IWILL KK266 mobo with onboard sound. The modem is so loud I can hear it from my basement! I have the speaker volume turned off everywhere I can find it (Dial up networking, modem in control panel) but it doesnt make any difference. I spend a lot of time working on line late at night while my family is sleeping, but this will wake them. Thanks for your help.

You may have to go to the modem properties of your specific connection and adjust it there. How to do this varies between '98 and 2000.
If you're dialing in through your Grandma's ISP (AOL), you have to get into their advanced configuration setup to do that. If you haven't gotten it already, let me know which you have and I'll be more specific.

Well this has always worked for me, your mileage may vary...

Start > Settings > Control Panel

Double-Click 'Modems'.

Click 'Properties' Button.

Select 'Connection' Tab.

Click 'Advanced' Button.

Enter 'm0' (m zero) in extra settings.

Well it works!

She wouldn't know a web page if it bit her on the arse.
To her URL means You are ill.
That aside, she's got to get past my BIOS password!

This is for Windows 2000. All the others should be quite similar, just fiddle around a little.

Control Panel>Network and Dial-up Connections

Right Click on your Connection.

Properties>Configure

Uncheck Enable modem speaker

Your Mouse moved. WINDOWS NT must restart for changes to take effect. Restart Now? [OK]
