How do I transfer my games and Windows from my HDD to my SSD?

I'm getting a lot of lag and such on games that I play, and my computer startup time is getting longer everyday. I have enough money for an SSD, but I want to know that I will be able to transfer all of my games, and Windows, and a few other softwares to my SSD ONLY. I do not want to "clone" my HDD because I can't afford a 1 TB SSD, I am getting a 500 GB one. Is there any way to transfer your OS and some games and apps to your SSD without doing a wipe on your HDD? Thank you for your time!

Moving to an SSD, 2 options:

Clean install.
This is the OS and everything else.
Steam games can probably be worked around, but everything else WILL need a clean install.
Just like starting up a new system.

Cloning
This requires that the consumed space be below 400GB or so, for a 500GB SSD.

"transfer" = "clone" (or migrate...same thing)

You can't pick and choose which applications.
You'd just need to do a clean install on the new drive, and install what you desire.

How much space is consumed on your current drive?

It's about full. I just purchased a 500 GB Samsung SSD. So it would have to be like a new PC?

🙁 I guess I will have to do a clean install. It's okay though. Thanks for your help!
