how do i translate a oem windows 7 key to the correct install key

Solution

You can't, you need to have the right key for the version you have installed. There is no way to know what the "correct install key" is since it's different depending on the version of Windows.

Or are you talking about the code you see with xxxxx-xxxxx-OEM-xxxxx ? If you are trying to get the product key from an existing installation, and not for use on another system, you can run speccy or Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder, that will give you the code that was used in install the computer.
Technically you cannot re-use an oem key.

BUT I did it to mine and it worked so... try it if it doesn't work, you have lost nothing but time. My procedure were:

Un-register from old box.
Try activating new box with it, Microsoft says something wrong call this phone#.
Go through the long, automated, phone procedure. When asked how many machines, say ONE.

More detail than this, u will have to Google.
