How do I turn off the NZXT Kraken x61 pump light

I recently bought a NZXT Kraken x61 and I'm satisfied with it except that the pump light won't turn off. I realize that this is because it is powered on by the usb connection which draws power even when the computer is off.

Currently, I'm thinking of buying this:

And plugging the usb connection into that. I don't have any experience with PCI usb expansion cards, but that shouldn't draw power once the computer has been shut down right?

Has anyone figured out how to turn off the pump light when you sleep/hibernate/shut down your computer. Or have any insight as to whether my idea will work?

The thing comes with software to control the lighting, thats probably the obvious place to start.

You could just cover it with tape or something.
You may also want to check your BIOS for any settings along the lines of "device charging while off". Some boards support supplying power to USB devices while the machine is off, and this could be the base of your problem.
