How do I update my BIOS when my monitor won't display?

I took my CPU out and then put it back in yesterday, and now my monitor won't display, even thought the computer seems to be booting up fine. According to this thread, I should try updating my BIOS, but I can't figure out how to do that without the monitor display.
I'm very new to computer upgrading/building; yesterday was the first time I'd ever opened one up.

EDIT: I got it to work after I installed a new CPU. I guess the old one got toasted.

Most likely your mobo isn't booting to the BIOS, where you would perform the update. I very much doubt the problem is now (coincidentally) the monitor also, however you could rule this out by borrowing a friends monitor or trying a tv perhaps.

Best suggestion is to remove the mobo battery for some time which will reset things to default. Oh, and re-seat the CPU again too.

How long would I need to keep the battery out? ANd would that update the BIOS?
