Hello. I can't seem to find out how to get my receiver to play audio from my smart TV (netflix, hulu, etc).

I have a Sony STR-DH750 7.2-channel receiver and a TCL Smart TV.

The audio for DirecTV comes through the receiver, however, the smart TV apps use the TV speakers. I have the cable box going into the HDMI in (SAT/CATV) and the TV is hooked up through the HDMI out port.

Do I have these setup correctly or is there something wrong with my settings on the TV?

Here is a pic of the back of the receiver: https://www.crutchfield.com/S-XBUcOYUfhHg/p_158STDH750/Sony-STR-DH750.html#&gid=1&pid=3

Thanks!!!

ARC. It's awesome. You need an ARC HDMI port on both the TV and the receiver. Once that's connected the TV will use the Audio Return Channel, ARC, to send the audio to the receiver. It will also handle volume changes.

If you don't have ARC you'll need to grab whatever your TV uses for audio out. Possible some sort of S/PDIF cable. That will be either optical or coax.

It should be ARC in to the receiver. It's bi directional so it shouldn't really matter? It's been a bit since I hooked mine up.

The other thing I had to do with my TV was turn on ARC. It was off by default. Go into the settings of the TV and make sure ARC is on.

Those receivers are not really made to handle the apps built in the smart TV, you can get a Roku or Amazon stick and hook that up to the receiver then swap to that input, or connect everything to the TV and use the optical out from the TV to the receiver.

You can also check with Sony and/or the TV maker support and see what they say.
