How do I watch a DVD?

So every other PC I have ever used in my entire life has given me the option to just watch the movie when I put the DVD in. But on this new windows 8 PC I built about 5 months ago I have never been able to? The only options are "Take no action" "Ask me every time." Or "Open file." And "open file" just opens up the file, no way to play it from there that I see. And the "ask me every time" does nothing. As it does not ask me anything. I just rented a movie and want to watch it. This is so damn annoying. What do I do?

You could download VLC player, that is pretty good and free. It's what I use for everything except Blu-ray.

Download and install VLC Player.

Due to various licensing issues, Microsoft stopped including DVD playback with the OS.

I love your picture by the way InvalidError. And I give win 8 a lot of crap. All in all it is not as bad as I say it is.

The only thing that really bothered me with Win8 was the "Modern" UI which I fixed by installing ClassicShell. The way some configuration items like networking are split between the "Charms" bar and the configuration panel can be quite bothersome too.

I used to have Vista before 8. People loved to bash Vista but I personally never had any issues with it after SP1.
