How do stress tests work with your gpu

GPU: GTX 770 Jetstream 4gb

I haven't even over clocked my gpu yet I was going to buy a water cooler for it but I just tested it using furmark or something it's like a gpu stress test so I did it before over clocking it to see my temps and straight away they went to 60, 2 minutes later they were on high 70's my fan is set at 100% speed once it gets to 77 and 80 percent at 70 so the fan speed was decent. During gaming my gpu rarely goes above 65c

A stress tests is a good way to see if your overclock ....

a) results in any instabilities or artifacts
b) results in any throttling .... the 770 throttles at 80C
c) presents too much of a challenge to your water loop, GPU cooler or case ventilation.

They basically put maximum load on your GPUs and report key data (power, voltage , temperature) while doing so.

So basically my gpu is unstable at factory settings? lol that's bad

The card throttles at 80C... you got to high 70s .... not understanding how you concluded that your card is unstable.

Card cooling is greatly affected by case and case cooling capacity / air flow

The max temp it got to was 81 I meant that the average was in the 70's, I believe my case air flow is good and plenty of fans
