Whenever I use KaZaA, iMesh or another P2P, I get an icon in my Notification Area on my taskbar that says "You have files waiting to be written to the CD."
I can't left click on it. Right clicking brings up a dialog box that says "Please insert a disk into drive R:" (which is my CDR).
If I do put a blank CD into the drive, it wants to burn it, but doesn't. I then have the option to let it keep trying or delete the files waiting to be copied. If I tell it to delete the files and my P2P is on, it says that it can't and tells me the file names it wants to copy. (Which are the files that I'm downloading.)
The icon is the CD Burning Wizard.... Where is this on the computer? I want to select its properties and tell it to not activate anymore!

Please help!!!

In My Computer, right-click the CDRW drive and click Properties. In the Recording tab, uncheck "Enable CD Recording for this drive".

Close your P2P program and see if that allows you to delete the files. Double-check to see where your downloaded files are going. You might have told them to download to the folder used by XP's CD burning. Also... if you're sharing files and someone is uploading those files from you, you won't be able to delete the files as they are 'in use'.

I don't want to delete the files. I want XP to stop trying to burn them to a CD. They're not in a windows file... they're in a folder on my desktop.
When I clicked on the properties of the CDR drive, it doesn't have an option tab that says recording... nor could I find anything like that in any of the tabs.

Did you at any time click and drag or right-click and select 'Send To' CD-R drive? If you did, the files will stay there until you either burn them or cancel the entire process. There is a temp folder on the hard drive that XP copies files to before they are written to CD.. wish I could remember the name.. you out there Toey?

No, I haven't. I also clean all my temp folders several times a day.
