One building, divided in 3 stories. I want to create a network of 100 computers in this one building. How many Routers, Switches and Hubs do I need? How many Straight and cross over cables do I need? and what kind of topologies to implement? Do I need a server? What protocol to implement? What i am asking here is to know each step involved in the creation of a 100 nodes network in our new office. I studied a lot but I never created a network only, I worked on GNS3 and Packet Tracer. I will appreciate if any Network Expert can reply to me with the step by step procedure here. Pardon me for Grammar and vocabulary. Thanks for your time.

Solution
You need a router, some switches, and some cables.
1 install router to line from isp.
2 set up switches in convenient locations to reach your PCs.
3 run cables from router to the switches.
4 run cables from switches to PCs.
Then call a good IT person to fix all the mistakes you made.....

What you need to do is hire an experienced, local, network engineer. There is no possible way to solve this in here. Way too many variables to consider.

I need one more suggestion! what is the best way to connect switches together.. it should be via fiber/utp or I need to stacking over these switches?

Please explain to me how you would even approach security? I'll make it easy and say that all 100 users (managers and all) are "trusted"...

Did you know you need more than a router to provide effective security? What were you thinking? An ACL that blocks all incoming traffic from the outside? You need a real firewall for that which you provided no real example of. Yes you need a real IT professional.

We could talk all day about security if you want (not really - since that requires time which a professional has invested in)

But what about services for these 100 users? Access from home? VPN? Access from the inside? Are both allowed?(Yes you need licenses for this!!!)

Where are your weakest points in the network? Running any legacy software/discontinued OS? Application layer inspection? What device does that again??

Seriously - quite a funny story but when someone thinks they can Google or Youtube a custom network configuration - let me know your Public IP and I'll let you know when/if you're safe..

I am going to continue laughing now but with my head hanging in shame for you!

With that much of desktops in a large corporation environment, you can't use the basic networking such as connecting client desktop to switch/router and have it run properly. If this is a school project, work with your team member and get more research (you will need more than just simple switch/router). If this is a work project, consult with your Manager on getting a budget out of it and hire a Specialist/IT Consultant to have them giving you on what to do (for less cost than hiring them to do the whole project) as you also need to focus on Security/Traffic/Cost for the company. If budget is an issue, this will be a VERY long process.
