The 9700 is a different core to the 9800, so it cant be flashed to 9800. But your 9800np has samsung memory so it will flash to a 9800pro without any problems because the 9800np is just a pro with lower clocked/volt memory and gpu.

Its been done loads of times and theres no risk involved as long as you have a proper 9800np with samsung memory that overclocks to 9800pro speeds. Thats what you have.

<A HREF="http://www.digitalsynapses.com/articles/9800npflash/" target="_new"> Heres </A> a guide to the flash and what memory you need.

Before you flash, check to see what brand of memory is on your card. Unless you have Samsung 2.2ns, 2.8ns, 3.0ns, or 3.3ns do not flash. If you have any of the above Samsung memory and your cards memory tops at say 330MHz, you should be OK to flash, as the 9800Pro BIOS slightly raises the voltage going to the memory, allowing for higher clocks

The guy who got that card to 520/400 also got another 9800np flashed to pro that did about 500/395 and he said a friend of his got the same sapphire 9800np, flashed to pro and got about the same overclock.....

If you do flash to pro, you MAY get say 5mhz less overclock on the core (due to heat produced by memory) but an extra 5-40mhz memory overclock or more.

Ok, flashed bios, reinstalled driver and everything. Windows still detects mine as a Radeon 9800, not pro. I must've done something wrong. But it did says flash rom was successful.

If it flashed properly it would detect it as a 9800pro.

LOL, don't care anymore i sold it, now i gotta find another card. Nobody seems to have 9800np with Samsung memory anymore, so i'm probably just going to buy a 9700pro or a 9600pro.
