"How do you cheat?"

I am stuck in the game Half-life 2 where a chopper shoots at me while I try
to open a gate. I always end up dead so my only solution to that is to
cheat. Now I wonder how you do that. I have learned so far that you should
choose the "options menu", "keyboard", "advanced" and tick "enable developer
console options". Then you should bring down the console by pushing the key
"~" while you are playing. And after that you should enter "sv_cheats 1".
Finally you should enter for instance "God" if you want no damage inflicted.

But when I try to do all the above it does not work. What am I doing wrong?

Destroy the chopper before attempting to open the gate. It isn't that
hard, just shoot it from a distance and move when it moves overhead to
drop bombs.

Andrew's right, you don't need to cheat to beat HL2. I used a couple of
cheats to get through HL1 the first time because I got really stuck,
but HL2 is generally a lot easier. There are are some hard battles, but
once you work out a tactic for each fight, you can get through.

Plus if there is a bit you are really stuck on, put the difficulty
down to Easy for that part rather than resort to cheating.

Try entering "sv_cheats 1" before loading the savegame. (Though it
works if entered during play for me).

Which gate is this? The one where you get out of the boat and go inside
a complex with a bunch of metrocops to open the gate? Or the one
where it's just you vs the chopper? The first can be difficult, but you
can make the chopper go away at the end by shooting it with the
mounted guns in the tower. The second should be somewhat easier...

....provided you still have the boat! You *do* have the boat don't you?

Try bending over blowing yourself for 20 minutes per day. Then you can
cheat all by yourself eventually.
