How do you check a video card to see if it works

Hello,
My computer will not light up any moniter. Have changed power and moniter cords and moniters?

The usual way is to substitute components until you isolate the faulty unit by a process of elimination. You've gone part of the way by swapping the video cable and monitor.

Now try the card in another computer -- you don't need a driver, it should work at boot-up displaying the motherboard start screen.

To avoid problems with any existing installation on that computer either disconnect the hard drive or switch off the computer before Windows starts.
