I just got a new phone and apparently it's one of the ones that is hooked up to that new emergency broadcast system. The US does this properly. They have different tiers of warnings (amber alerts, presidential messages, etc) so you can opt out of some of them. But in Canada, we are stupid. Every message is sent through the "presidential messages" system, which you apparently can't disable. This means that my phone will activate an alarm for an amber alert that is literally 1,500km (13 hour drive) away from my location.

From what I read, you're supposed to be able to disable this in the settings, but I don't see any option to. I have a Samsung Galaxy A50. Anyone know if it's possible to disable those?

You can possibly disable that app from settings.

If not able to disable or uninstall, you can replace it with google messages or some other third party app from the play store.

Just download google messages and if asked, set it as the default app.
