I'm looking to get rid of Firefox (too much SJW political crap for me) and want to get a better browser...which browsers do y'all like? I've been looking at the Opera browser and I like what I've seen so far. How about you...any suggestions?

I like Opera like I like most Chromium-based browsers.

But I echo the last poster's questions. Firefox is every bit as configurable, if not more so, than Chromium-based browsers and (ignoring Brave - also Chromium-based) is at this moment probably the best privacy wise of any of the major common browsers out there.

Lol, what "SJW political crap" are you forced to endure simply by using Firefox?

Are we talking desktop or mobile?

I get an email from Mozilla about once a week, or so, telling me that white supremacists are trying to brainwash everyone and that I should be careful who I interact with online...and of course they know who's safe to interact with and who is not. Here's the content of their most recent email...

I'm on a PC...do you have a favorite browser? If so, I'd like to get as many opinions as I can so that I can make an informed choice. Thanks a bunch!

Opera sounds like an excellent replacement for Firefox. As for security, I have Express VPN which is really nice. And for those times when I want to interact with my white supremacist buddies I use the Tor browser! 😀

Then unsubscribe. That's far easier than changing browsers, and you probably subscribed by accident to begin with (or didn't opt out by accident to begin with).

Mozilla.org is not in the habit of sending unsolicited e-mail. And as a Firefox (among other browsers) user of decades duration I can say that with certainty.

I use Brave Browser personally. Some people may be a little leery of it because it has an association with crypto currency, but it's pretty easy to disable that aspect of it.

It's basically a privacy focused chromium based browser with some built in ad blocking/anti tracking functionality. I like it!

I don't know how well it works syncing your stuff between devices though, not sure if you care about that.

Edit: Oh, and it's open source. That's a plus, at least for some people.

At some point you were asked, "send you notification and news blah-blah" and u absentmindedly like the rest of us said YES.

Hence my earlier comment, "Then unsubscribe."

I have yet to get any e-mail of this nature from Mozilla. However, if I were to, it's certainly because I subscribed to it via opting-in or not opting-out in a scenario like you describe.

Organizations like Mozilla and other majors do not send spam and will honor unsubscribe requests submitted using the link embedded, generally at the bottom, of these sorts of messages.

Looking for a different browser, in this case, is throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

another thing to keep in mind with the email thing is this:
this email you got that linked you to Washington Post was not something that Mozilla themselves necessarily endorse or specifically chose to send you, but rather just part of the melting pot of "partners" and such that basically pay Mozilla money to take whatever crap they throw into the mix and just blast it out in emails as part of the "news" thing.

The only thing Mozilla may screen these kinds of emails for is anything illegal or that could be harmful to your privacy and data, other than that it's just basically paid advertisement that is paid by Washington Post to be advertised to you to click the link and go to their site, it's not an article written by Mozilla, and most likely Mozilla doesn't even have any alliance or opinion on what kind of crap WP makes articles about, all they are doing is just taking a paycheck and forwarding shit automatically with their systems.

And getting such emails as others have stated would be because you didn't uncheck the check mark box for getting such emails when you created a Mozilla account.

Not wanting to use the browser and not liking the company shouldn't be based on things like this but instead the things that Mozilla actually says, does, and publicly endorses and these kinds of emails are not one such thing.

Firefox is hands down the best browser in general. While some other browsers may excel in very specific things in comparison to Firefox, they don't excel by much and end up falling seriously short in ever other aspect.

But if looking for an alternative, Chrome would be it I guess. Outside of Chrome would be other browsers which are all pretty much Chromium based at this point.

I've come across too many things over the years for Opera browser and it's shortcomings with plenty of complaints or community support requests for problems and issues with it to be able to confidently recommend it.

The last browser I would even dare to recommend outside of Firefox, Google Chrome, and Chromium base (open source version of Chrome without most all of Google's baked in crap you can get for free) would be Microsoft Edge. Last I checked they were releasing a Chromium based version of Edge, but don't know if it's out yet or not but something to look into I guess.

Thanks for posting that link! The way it reads to me is that this Chinese consortium is buying Opera's business browser but will not be getting the consumer browser, only the 'Opera' name...the Norwegian company will have a year to come up with a new name for their consumer browser. I'll wait to see how everything shakes out before I sign up with them. Thanks again, Alabalcho!

Took me the better part of an hour to find it but I've unsubscribed to the Mozilla "newsletter".

I didn't have a Mozilla account 'til just now...but when I checked the 'preferences' page the Mozilla "newsletter" was ticked on. I've had Firefox for about 15 years but I didn't start receiving these kinds of emails 'til about 6 months ago. Anyway, thanks for posting a very thoughtful response, I appreciate it!

First, Opera is a Chromium-based browser, and one of many years in the field. It's about as stable and useful as any Chromium-based browser can be.

Second, the Microsoft Edge Dev, which is not yet released, is both Chromium-based and working very, very well. I've been on the Dev channel almost since the day it came into existence. There are three channels for the under development version of Edge that you can choose to be on: Canary (updated daily), Dev (updated weekly), Beta (updated every 6 weeks). If you're curious to try any of the channels, go to
Microsoft Edge Insider Channels
and download whichever channel's version you wish.
