How do you fix a very slow harddrive that is slowing down the computer?

Hello.

My 2 tb harddrive stopped working a while ago. I have some photos and videos on it that i would like to recover (and fix the harddrive itself if possible). When it first started to get slow, i had to take it out of my computer, since it was slowing the pc down. The pc also took ages to turn on when the harddrive was in the computer. I have tried to hook it up in a harddrive dock (usb3) and it has worked sometimes. One day i managed to move around 300 gb over to my pc. But most of the times, it just slows down the whole computer. Is there any way i can recover the data on the harddrive and/or fix the harddrive?

Move the files over in small chunks .... delete the files from old drive after successfully transferred

Delete any unneeded files

Run Defrag ... assuming disk has 10% free

you can always use a hard drisk diagnostic program. the HDD may be slowing down because it may have some bad secors on it meaning it will soon fail

Yeah, i would do that, but i cant even open the hard drive in file explorer :/
