How do you read benchmarks?

Thats right, im asking that question.
I have no idea how to read those cpu bencharks , does anyone have a simple explanation?
I just started on this desktop thing

The higher the number the better the CPU.

This is a low end CPU with a low benchmark.

This is a much better CPU with a better benchmark.
