i've been wondering about this and i only now thought to ask here on the
newsgroup! anyway, the chart in the manual seems misprinted to me...it
seems like the horizontal numbers should be 0-100 instead of 100-0, and
it also seems like the horizontal and vertical axes labels should be
switched, so that the vertical is good/evil, and horizontal is law/chaos...

or am i looking at it wrong?

100=Lawful
100=Good
0=Chaotic
0=Evil

In that case, I think I was right about both things. The axes are
labeled backwards, and the horizontal axis is numbered backwards.

Yep, looking at page 36 of the NWN Gold manual (thats the one for NWN
plus SOU) the chart is really butchered, just as you say

should look like so:

LG NG CG
LN N CN
LE NE CE

with 100 100 in the upper left to 0 0 in the lower right.

Hmm they even labled the L/C and G/E wrong, so they aren't even
consistent with their own chart.

When I say "should look like so" I mean traditionally from AD&D, it
really doesn't make any difference if you draw it the way they did
instead, but their numbers don't match up with the way they drew it,
either. And the L/C G/E thing is wrong for their chart -and- for the
traditional one.

The number system they invented for themselves, which makes the failure
to be consistent even harder to fathom. And I don't see why true
nuetral isn't 0 0.... too judgemental?

Does it make any difference anyway ?

The only difference I can see is that certain items only work for certain
alignments.
