Question How do you unlock a HDD that has been hooked up to another console?

I have 3TB HDD that I used to have in my old Satellite System for recording programs to. I had to register it to that system ( which was running on Linux), when the machine packed up I decided to scrap it and so I took the 3TB HDD out of it and use it on my PC.
Now I can't see it on any of my connected drives through any way I have tried so far? Is there some software or a method I have to use to be able to use the HDD again?

can you see it in bios? through diskpart?? disk management?? 3rd party software?? crystal ball???

I have tried EaseUs Partition Master 11, diskmanagement,

can you see the drive in bios?

make sure it is plugged into an active sata port and has power hooked up from the psu?

I will have to power down the PC and unplug one of my HDD to do that as I have no spare connectors, at the moment I'm using an extenal (double disk) caddy which shows up the other drive but not this one?

try it plugged in directly. it's likely not in the right format for windows but it should still show up.

those cradles are nice but they can at times not recognize a drive for no real reason i've ever been able to figure out

Does it spin up? If not, then it could be configured to Power Up In Standby (PUIS).

OK, plugged up the problem drive by unplugging one of the existing drives, checked in bios but could not see it.
Ran EaseUS and diskmanagement side by side, see below - or maybe not? how do I insert an image (screenshot .jpg) from my computer to here???. Where do I go from here?

It looks like they basically show that the disk doesn't exist, they just show the same ?

No it does not spin up in either external drive or connected internally?
How do I do this 'Power Up In Standby (PUIS)' when I cannot see the HDD?

is this an old drive? has it given problems before?

sounds like it might be DOA at this point. if it does not show when plugged directly in, there is little that can be done.

Well thanks to all for helping m try to sort this, but if it is DOA (WD, Green, date on it is 26 March 2009) as you say then it's bin time for it and I'll get a new one.

yah 2009 is pretty old. i have a couple that age myself and they have nothing of value on them since i know they can die at any time.

hopefully you got back-ups of the drive somewhere else.

lots of sales on drives right now and you'll likely find a good price on a WD blue 2 tb or similar right now. 2 tb usually runs about $40 or so.

If PUIS is active, then attaching it to a Linux box, or booting from a Linux CD, will spin it up.

Alternatively, you could use HDAT2 to disable PUIS. You will need to launch HDAT2 with the "/w" switch, ie ...
