How does AMD 3D work?

Hey tom's hardware members! This is my first question here and I'm looking to know how AMD 3D works.

I'm getting the 280x or 290x within the next month and I feel like I wanna try 3D gaming now that I have a 3D monitor! (BenQ 24" 3D LED XL2411T)
So. What do I need besides from a 3D ready graphics card and a 3D monitor.

Is all I have to do, go and get some glasses then "just activate" 3D vision in the cataclyst control panel and I'm ready?

It doesn't, you either go Nvidia or you don't get 3D, AMD's 3D implementation is completely worthless. You can count the amount of games it supports on one hand, the performance hit is huge and theres no community fixes, which are absolutely invaluable as a huge chunk of 3D games flat out don't work without fixing.
