I was left with a broken cheapo Acer with this rather gutless quad core CPU/APU. The hard drive had failed but the rest of the unit looks fine. It looks like this might be an OK unit for video playback and I was considering using it as a media PC because of the low power usage. My current media PC is an i5 Sandy Bridge based laptop with Intel HD 3000 graphics so I could free up that one for something more demanding.
It looks like the graphics performance of this low-end unit is the best part. Would this be an acceptable platform for streaming video from the web, as well as playing DVD and Blu Ray movies through an external Blu Ray drive? This drive is USB3.0 and I have one port that runs at this speed.
I also read that this unit can support 4k resolution while the Intel HD 3000 can not. Newer versions can but mine is too old. Supporting the resolution and not being choppy doing it are two different things. What do you think? I would personally never buy something like this, but since it was left behind, I figure I could install an SSD and make use of it.
