How does MB OC work at all?

Does it do any good? I don't really understand the concept. I get GPU and CPU OC, but how does that really make sense in terms of a MB? I've got a ASUS Z97-P LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6 Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX. Would an OC improve anything at all?

you can OC your cpu and gpu ONLY if your motherboard support OC feature (z series)
