If you have not already both it then here is a few edit i would like to do.
Like i7 4790k instead of i7 4770k the 4790k is actually better than the 4770k with 4 ghz of clock and good thermals and costs 10$ less.
The HX PSU from corsair is good but at lower price you can get better PSU like EVGA G2 750watt so you can SLI in future without changing the PSU.
2x4 gb RAM instead of 1x8 gb dual Chanel is about 20% better.

Awesome! I appreciate the info! I've already got the 4770K, but I wouldn't mind upgrading to the 4790K the difference is worth it. I've read some reviews on 4770K vs 4790K. The outcome was that the 4770K was better in most cases for gaming but lost when it came to video editing, ect.

Performance wise i7 4770k is weaker than the i7 4790k the 4790k has 500 mhz of more default clock speed and its a haswel refresh processor so better cooling & more overclocking.

But there is no meaning of upgrading from i7 4770k to i7 4790k in gaming you will barely notice any difference.

I've updated my PC Picker page if you'd want to check it out, I meant to have the noctua D15 there. I've already got the 4770K, 840 Evo, G.Skill Ripjaws X RAM. I just got paid and I've got $400. I can buy anything, I was thinking the GPU would be the biggest upgrade, but I really hate to put it in my crummy Z87-G43 motherboard, also without my new PSU. What do you think I should buy first?

I've got two 1333 (possibly 1600MHz) memory sticks that I can use for dual channel, but they're blue :-(

.

Noctua D15 will give you a few deg more cooling if you have 400$ in your pocket and thinking about what to upgrade then i would say GPU if you have a decent PSU then again i would recomend you to go with EVGA G2 750 watt if you want to sli in future or just get a XFX 550 watt PSU for a single gtx 970

For that matter, I don't see any point in overclocking; you will barely notice any difference either.

Maybe in three years it'd be worth something, but for now either of those CPUs will kill any game there is; overclocking would be doing it just to do it. I'd save it for later, along with the CPU cooler; who knows what better will come out by then.

Yes true at stock clock i7 4770k or i7 4790k will be more than enough for any game alo the i5 4430,4440,4460,4690etc will be enough.
