I understand that the new update for AMD GPUs make the Fury X superior than the 980 TI, but I want to know how this is possible, because it doesn't make much sense that a 4GB card is superior than a 6GB card.
not only is vram not a measure of power but the vram on the cards is VASTLY different as well. the fury x has vram that is a lot faster than the 980ti. this is why the fury x fairs better in 4k than the 980ti. 4 gb of very fast ram is enough while the 6 gb of much slower ram is not enough.

There is also the matter of optimizing drivers to take greater advantage of the hardware capabilities. Just another factor to keep in mind as part of this discussion.
nvidia is usually better at the driver game but sometimes amd gets it together and releases a well optimized driver. overall, there are a ton of reasons for the fury x being better at some things but the 980 ti still wins at a few others. you have to check specific benchmarks to see which fairs better in which game and at what resolutions
