Question How does the graphics card determine that a monitor is hooked up via HDMI?

So I have two monitors hooked up to my graphics card with HDMI and DVI-to-HDMI cables in different rooms (a TV and a Monitor). I notice that, when I do something graphics intensive on the TV, it is choppy. If I unplug the monitor, its fixed. I would like to automate the unplugging process by installing a wifi relay on the HDMI lead responsible for telling the graphics card, "hey, there is no monitor hooked up!"

Which lead does this, though? Is it the 5 VDC lead on the HDMI?

By choppy do you mean if you're playing a games the FPS drops or stutters? You can automate the unplugging process by disabling the second monitor through your driver if that is ultimately what you are looking to do, a WiFi relay is nonsense.
